What is a Domain Name?
A name that identifies one or more IP addresses. Most are associated with just one IP, but microsoft.com is associated with as many as 12 IP's Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web Site. For example, in the URL http://www.urdomainnames.com/, the domain name is "urdomainnames".
What is a TLD?
A TLD is a suffix just after the domain name that indicates which Top Level Domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such top domains. For example, in the URL http://www.urdomainnames.net/, the Top Level Domain is the .net. Registering the same domain name with multiple TLD's has marketing and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) advantages. You can treat each as a unique website, or you can make them identical. For instance, www.urdomainnames.com and www.urdomainnames.net serve the same purpose, but are a little bit different. This way a competitor cannot register the .net and compete with me based on similar URLs.
Partial TLD list:
.com - Commercial business (Most Popular)
.net - Network organizations
.org - Organizations
.us - United States Organization
Partial International Domains list:
.hk /.com.hk- Hong Kong
.uk / .co.uk - United Kingdom
